The Seychelles is 1,600 kilometres northeast of Nairobi — four hours by air, a world away in atmosphere. After days of red dust, game drives and the muscular drama of the African bush, the Seychelles offers its opposite: silence, turquoise water, and beaches of a quiet, almost surreal beauty.
Mahé, the largest island, has the airport and the capital Victoria — a small, neat city with a colourful market and the distinctive carved wooden doors of Creole architecture. Most visitors use Mahé as a stepping stone to Praslin, home of Anse Lazio — consistently listed among the world's finest beaches — and La Digue, where Anse Source d'Argent's granite boulders and powder sand have made it one of the most photographed places on earth.
The Seychelles rewards those who go deeper. Cousin Island, a nature reserve, has nesting turtles and rare birds. Silhouette Island, just offshore from Mahé, has dense forest, zero cars and a lodge that feels like the end of the world.
